American Export Register
This is a multilingual sourcing directory (six languages) containing more than 45,000 American suppliers in over 5,500 product and service categories. The focus is on exports.

AMM Online: The World Metals Information Network
AMM Online is the international news service of American Metal Market, the daily newspaper of the metals and recycling industries published by Cahners. Subscribers can access the entire site; other visitors get only limited access. The site presents news, a reference desk, and a prices menu.

APICS Online
This site by APICS-The Educational Society for Resource Management. The site primarily promotes the association, but there are also links to other Web resources.

BioAPI Consortium
The BioAPI Consortium was formed to develop a widely available and widely accepted application programming interface (API) that will serve for various biometric technologies. This site provides information on this organization.

Center for Advanced Purchasing Studies
The Center produces research reports and hosts International Executive Roundtables. This is the place to find out more about the Center and order reports.

Centre for International Trade
Centre for International Trade (CIT) is a member organization established to improve, facilitate, and expand international trade. It has 3,500 members around the world, including embassies, government agencies, trade associations, companies, firms, and individuals. The members network and offer courtesy discounts to each other. The site provides information on national rules, regulations, procedures, and trade opportunities, as well as industry news. There are also products, services, training, publications, links, and a discussion forum. CIT publishes a free newsletter, International Trader, and the site provides access to back issues.

The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply
CIPS is an international non-profit organization representing purchasing and supply chain professionals. This site has a good resources area that links to many of the purchasing and supply organizations around the world, particularly in Europe.

China External Trade Development Council (CETRA)
CETRA, a non-profit government-sponsored professional trade promotion association based in Taiwan, helps with sourcing in the Asia-Pacific Region. It offers a wide range of trade-related periodicals, directories, and market reports in Chinese and English. The Web site is maintained in collaboration with Taipei World Trade Center, a non-profit trade promotion organization in Taiwan.

CIO Magazine's Government Resource Center
This site provides information on government issues, such as EC/EDI, procurement reform, and more.

CommerceNet
This is the site of a non-profit consortium of about 150 organizations that want to stimulate e-commerce on the Internet.

Computer Information Center
"These pages provide links to sites and resources concerned with the burgeoning cashless society. These include Electronic Commerce, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Digital Cash, Secure Credit Card Transactions, Digital Signatures and other related subjects."

Consumer World®-which purports to be "The Consumer Resource Guide"-is a public service, non-commercial site that presents more than 1800 of the most useful consumer resources on the Internet, categorized for easy access. Visitors can find buying advice and read product reviews and comparisons.

Council of Logistics Management Online Logistics Bibliography
This is a database of over 10,000 abstracts of logistics-related articles. It replaces CLM's annual Bibliography of Logistics Management, which will no longer be printed. The bibliography includes abstracts and full bibliographic citations of articles from current periodicals and journals from 1997 to the present and abstracts that appeared in the printed versions for 1993, 1994, 1995, and 1996. The bibliography is updated weekly.

EcomWorld is "the Online Magazine for EC Professionals." This site is centered on the print publication, Electronic Commerce World, but there are other resources, including news, an events calendar, and discussions.

This site features three databases for electronics: manufacturers, distributors, and sales representatives-factory-authorized sources for over 1,500 component manufacturers. Visitors can do online RFQs.

This is an online magazine for electronics purchasers.

Electronic Commerce Association
This is the home page of the ECA, an association that promotes electronic commerce.

Electronic Commerce and the European Union
This is the official site of the European Commission for supporting and promoting electronic commerce in member countries of the European Union.

Electronic Commerce Europe
ECE, an international non-profit association, was founded in March 1997 to promote, co-ordinate, and assist in the development of electronic commerce in Europe.

Electronic Commerce Guide
To get up to speed on electronic commerce and to keep up with developments, this could be a good site to bookmark. It provides news, product reviews, a library (articles, journals, white papers), a Link Vault, and a "webopedia" of the most up-to-date terms, definitions, and acronyms in electronic commerce. There are also a free weekly electronic newsletter, discussion forums, and an electronic discussion list.

Electronic Commerce Research Center
"From small business to multinational, Electronic Commerce will change the way you do business. This Research Center examines the current state and future directions of conducting commerce on the Net."

Electronic Commerce Resource Center
The ECRC Program is sponsored by the Department of Defense's Joint Electronic Commerce Program Office. There are 17 regional offices, which "serve as a catalyst for a vast network of small- and medium-sized enterprises to adopt electronic commerce."

This site promises "comprehensive e-commerce and Internet business and government resources for beginners to experts, help in becoming better cheaper faster." It offers a good variety of links, categorized for convenience, and a free quarterly newsletter. Since this is a regional site located in Bremerton, WA, the focus of the events listings is on the Northwest, but most of the resources are of value to all visitors.

This guide from Premenos Software includes an overview of EDI standards and links to interesting Web sites for EDI users.

This site devoted to Enterprise Resource Planning provides news, forums, books, and information related to ERP and ERP products.

This site provides articles, links, and information about events and vendors.

E.surplus
If you're interested in government contracts and/or surplus property, this is the place. Visitors can search through recent back issues of Commerce Business Daily, the federal government's central clearinghouse for bid requests, contract notifications, and notices of surplus equipment, covering federal agencies and offices domestic and abroad. There are also distribution lists to inform subscribers of bids, contracts, and items appearing in each issue of CBD. There are fees for some services.

ETA Forum
This site is a public forum on the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act.

Europages: The European Business Directory
This site indexes 500,000 companies in 30 countries. Visitors can search by product/service or company name.

Federal Acquisition Reform Network
This site focuses on providing information on acquisition reform and federal regulations.

Federal Electronic Commerce Program Office
This is the resource for information on what the federal government is doing about conducting business electronically.

Federation of International Trade Associations
This site provides links to 1000 annotated and indexed Web resources. It also features a global book store, trade leads posted daily from around the world, and a searchable list of seminars, conferences, and trade shows relating to international trade. Trade Hub identifies a few hundred systems that list offers to buy and sell on a wholesale basis internationally.

FreeMarkets OnLine Inc.
FreeMarkets® creates business-to-business online markets for Fortune 1000 and Global 1000 companies. These online markets are real-time interactive bidding events between pre-qualified suppliers that enable buyers to purchase industrial materials and components at true market prices. This type of market interaction is a fundamentally new way for buyers to negotiate prices and for suppliers to generate low-cost sales.

GE Trading Process Network
GE TPN Post is an Internet-based trading network that enables buyers and sellers to do business-to-business electronic commerce, including transactions. It started in early 1995 as an internal GE corporate initiative, but it's now a commercial offering from GE Information Services. Visitors can join the network as buyers or as sellers.

Global Board of Trade
The slogan for this site says it all-"Broadcasting Trade Leads to the World." Visitors can select an industry and check trade leads, then go to the "Trade Floor" to exchange trade information "in a secured and confidential manner."

Golden Bridge Trade Center
This site is billed as "The Most Comprehensive and Efficient Source for International Trade Leads." Golden Bridge publishes (in paper and electronic versions) the Global Import-Export Weekly Newsletter, which provides import-export information worldwide by connecting buyers with sellers and importers with exporters. There's a registration fee for accessing the on-line trade center, $15CDN/month.

Global Contact Online
This Web site was developed to offer free information to help companies locate products and services worldwide. There's also news and information related to the world of international trade and transportation and import/export legal information. Global Contact also allows searches of The Directory of U.S. Companies and The NAFTA Register.

The Global Forum for Marketing & Logistics
This forum is hosted by MCB, publisher of Logistics Information Management and Supply Chain Management. This arena provides "current awareness," including interactive services and a comprehensive resources archive, intended for "practitioners, academics, authors, and anyone interested in developing their knowledge of this area." The focus is primarily on marketing and distribution.

Global Information Network
It's easier to keep up with what's affecting business around the world with a resource like this, "The Search Engine for Global Business." It's a well-organized source of sources.

The Global Procurement & Supply Chain Benchmarking Initiative
The primary mission of this initiative is to study the best procurement and supply chain strategies, practices, and processes used by companies worldwide. The site features the Strategic Self-Assessment System, an on-line, real-time benchmarking application launched in July 1996. Companies that are members of the Benchmarking Initiative can complete strategic self-assessments about their procurement and supply chain strategies and practices, submit data, and receive immediate comparison feedback.

W.W. Grainger, Inc.'s online catalog featuring more than 90,000 MRO supplies from the leading business-to-business distributor of MRO supplies and related information.

This site is intended to give health care purchasers a comprehensive and immediate search facility for locating products and services.

i2 Fans Club

National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws
The National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws was formed in 1892. NCCUSL is composed of more than 300 lawyers, judges, and law professors, appointed by the states as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, to draft proposals for uniform and model laws and work toward their enactment in legislatures. TIPS is touted as "the largest integral and informative e-commerce network available for doing business." This service was designed specifically for small and medium-sized enterprises. TIPS processes and disseminates offers and demands gathered directly from companies-particularly SMEs.

TradeBook is a business directory of products and inquiries for on-line trade all over the world. Any company can search all products and inquiries and register its products and inquiries free of charge.

Trade Compass

This is proclaimed to be "the premier international trade web site on the Internet." That may be true if you want to sell, but if you need to buy, this site offers little of interest.

Users pay a one-time fee and then a rate per hour of usage to access the portal with passwords and conduct natural language searches across a database of 100,000 catalogs from more than 90,000 suppliers. Purchasing pros can designate their preferred suppliers, with contractual pricing, and can limit lower-level buyers' access to these pre-arranged relationships.

WLW Online

WorldBid claims to be "the World's Largest Source of Free Business-to-Business Trade Leads." Purchasers can search among offers to sell by word or phrase, category, or codes-SIC, Harmonizing, and NAICS-or sign up to receive by e-mail offers in any categories they select. There's no cost and the interface is neat and efficient.
