- He's taught at Michigan State University, Indiana University, l'Université de Strasbourg (France), and the University of Wisconsin.
- He's presented at scholarly conferences and published articles on medieval literature and culture, primarily on aging and Eustache Deschamps.
- He's served as an employment counselor.
- He's written and promoted songs.
- He's worked as a technical and literary translator, most recently publishing The Ordinary Hero by Yves Bertrand.

Bob is the proud father of two wonderful people (Nick and Beth) and the stepfather of two dogs (Billie Jo and Danny Joe).
