Academy of Human Resource Development
The Academy provides links to a variety of sites.

Adult Education & Distance Learner's Resource Center
This site includes a lot of very good information on distance education/learning, including substantial information on schools offering distance learning programs. Of particular interest is The Virtual University Gazette, a free monthly electronic publication, with archives of the most recent issues.

The Adult Education Network (AEDNET)
AEDNET publishes New Horizons in Adult Education, a refereed electronic journal, that you can check out at this site. You can also search through past issues of the journal and messages from the AEDNET discussion list.

Advanced Distributed Learning Network (ADLNet)
In November 1997, the Department of Defense and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy launched the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative. The purpose of the ADL initiative is to ensure access to high-quality education and training materials that can be tailored to individual learner needs and can be made available whenever and wherever they are required. This site features a library, links, SIGs, forums, and a calendar of events.

ALN Web: Asynchronous Learning Networks
This is the home of ALN Magazine and Journal of ALN and a source of information about asynchronous learning, including the International Conference on Asynchronous Learning Networks. It hosts online discussions and features a directory of online courses.

American Productivity and Quality Center
This is the "International Benchmarking Clearinghouse," focusing on benchmarking and the development of best practices. It offers training and other resources in such areas as benchmarking, knowledge management, measurement, customer satisfaction, and productivity. The site includes articles from the Center's magazine, Continuous Journey.

American Society for Training and Development
This site is comprehensive, with links to other sites, articles from Training & Development and Technical Training, and other information related to performance and training issues-as well as "Communities of Practice"-areas with specialized resources and focused discussion-and lots of links. There are also live chats and discussion forums.

America's Learning Exchange
This site is sponsored by America's Labor Market Information System of the Employment and Training Administration of the Department of Labor. It includes a newsletter and other information on a variety of technology-based, distance learning, and traditional courses.

Big Dog's Human Resource Development Page
This is an eclectic collection of resources, with links to other sites dealing broadly and specifically with training and related areas.

Brandon Hall: Links to Web-Based Training Sites
Home of the MultimediaTraining Newsletter, this site offers some good links.

Business Process Reengineering Learning Center
ProSci provides articles, tool kits, information on consultants and other resources, and addresses for BPR mailing lists.

A Business Researcher's Interests
Although this may not be "The Ultimate Business Management and Technology Resource," as it's labeled, this site provides very useful links and search capabilities.

Center for the Study of Work Teams
This site features information on conferences, educational resources, research projects, the work teams newsletter, and the Teamnet discussion list, as well as external papers and editorials, conference proceedings, and Web links.

Computer Training Network
The purpose of this site is to provide training managers and IT professionals an easy way to find computer education resources. You can locate trainers in several ways, including by region, specific software product, or category of software.

Consultants Mall
This is a center for information about sources for consultants of all types.

Corporate Training University
This site was created by the publishers of the Corporate University Review. It features articles, products, a training discussion forum, job listings and résumés, a calendar of events, and some links.

Creative Training Techniques International
This site hosted by Bob Pike, author of The Creative Training Techniques Handbook and editor of the Creative Training Techniques newsletter, features dozens of free, downloadable articles.

Critical Linkages II Newsletter
With its motto "the key to productivity is learning," Critical Linkages II features short articles and quality in education, with material of interest to managers at all levels.

The Discian Group Compass
This site serves as a guide to training and consulting tools, resources, and ideas on the Internet. All destinations in the Compass have been reviewed and rated by members of the Discian editorial board. Site visitors can also subscribe to the free ezine, The Compass, to receive biweekly lists of rated links.

DistaLearning International
DLI is a showcase for Intranet- and Internet-based development resources. The site allows searches for course providers or for specific training courses with full-program descriptions. It also has a messaging forum, chat rooms, and a discussion list.

Edge Training Systems, Inc.
This training consulting company provides information here about its products, including videos on workplace violence, sexual harassment, and diversity.

ERIC Clearinghouse on Adult, Career, and Vocational Education
The site features the Trends and Issues Alerts, with such early titles as "Spirituality in the Workplace" and "Learning Styles and Electronic Information," as well as a searchable database of ERIC publications.

epss.com! is "an independent webzine providing the most comprehensive resource on the World Wide Web for Electronic Performance Support Systems (EPSS), Performance Centered Design, and Knowledge Management." The site provides a guide to terminology, hosts a forum, features industry news, and lists books, articles online, organizations, and conferences.

Gerrit Visser's HRD Page
This site provides links to "250 HRD sources," including performance technology. The choices are eclectic.

The Globewide Network Academy
GNA is an educational non-profit organization that maintains the Online Distance Education Catalog (ODEC), which lists more than 17,000 courses and programs.

HR 2000
This site presents assessment tools, HR discussion lists, Web links, software, and articles on training and development.

HR Expertise
Created in August 1998, this site consisted of a discussion forum (bulletin board) and a page of links to sites related to all areas of HR.

HRWire
This is an online HR newsletter, updated daily. You can set up a trial subscription, after which it's a paid service. For HR professionals, it's definitely worthwhile.

HR World
This site, an information service for human resource management, is primarily "for members only," but registration is free. It features forums, information, resources, and opportunities.

HRIM Mall
This site, "On-line Human Resources Systems and Services Guide," serves as a one-stop shopping center for human resources needs - featuring products and services, events, and links to associations and other HR Web sites.

The HR Global Village
Sponsored by the Human Resource Planning Society, this site aims to be "the hottest strategic HR networking site on the planet." The entire site is declared "an advertisement-free zone" and the developers have worked smart at providing a "friendly, fun atmosphere." Registration is required.

Human Performance and Achievement Resources
This site features articles and annotated links to sites "relating to improving human abilities, skills and performance in a variety of areas including business, profession and career, small business and entrepreneurship, education, relationships, and personal achievement."

Human Resource Learning Center
This site, hosted by ProSci, claims to be "one of the industry's most comprehensive sites on human resources and employee services." It features links, information on benchmarking and best practices, and references to articles and books.

Human Resource Professional's Gateway to the Internet
This site includes a good variety of links and information on HR management assembled by Eric R. Wilson.

Influent
This is the site of the Influent Technology Group, a company that sponsors a variety of conferences, with special emphasis on training in information technology.

InsideHR
This site, maintained by the Research Institute of America Group, features news updates, a library of best practices, bulletin boards, and links to government sites. There's a fee for subscribing to HR Wire, a weekly send of news and perspective for human resources and employee relations professionals.

Inside Technology Training
This site is devoted to the publication, Inside Technology Training, but it features a good forum.

Instructional Technology Links
This site, the home page of Gerald R. Viers of California State University-Pomona, provides a very complete listing of links to universities around the world that offer programs in instructional technology.

International Association for Continuing Education and Training
This site mainly provides an overview of this association.

International Personnel Management Association Assessment Council
The IPMA is the main association for public personnel professionals, primarily those who work in federal, state, or local government. This page provides information on IPMA's assessment council and includes links to other sites.

International Society for Performance Improvement
This site provides information on ISPI activities, conferences, and publications.

International Training Consultants, Inc.
International Training Consultants, Inc., is a global producer of custom, off-the-shelf training modules, videos, and assessment instruments. This site promotes its products.

The Journal of Technology Education
This site is dedicated to this refereed electronic publication, distributed by the subscription list described below "Discussion Lists."

The Learning Exchange
This is a great resource for information on organizations in the U.S. and around the world, on-line resources, and periodicals and books.

Linkage, Inc.
This is the site of a company that claims to be "the leading provider of corporate education and consulting for organizational development and training professionals worldwide." It features information on conferences and workshops, an events calendar, educational resources, and chat boards that cover such areas as knowledge management, leadership development, competency, coaching, teams, and assessment, measurement, and evaluation.

The Masie Center
"The Technology and Learning ThinkTank," this site features a "TechLearn" bookstore and on-line learning resources. Of particular interest is the searchable database of links, if you can find it (currently at www.masie.com/fused/trlinks/trlinks.cfm).

National Association for Government Training and Development
This site promotes NAGTAD and its quarterly newsletter, Government Training and Development NewsBriefs, but there are also some very good links here.

Organizational Development Network
This site provides information about the ODN and supports a number of email lists. It also has a resource section that includes assessment tools, large group interventions, and organizational learning.

PC Trainers Gateway
This site includes various links to resources for training people in the use of PCs and software.

PeopleWorks
PeopleWorks, part of Information Handling Services Group, Inc., focuses on helping organizations understand and comply with the rules, regulations, guidelines, and standards mandated by federal and state human resource laws. The site features HR products, free resources, links, and news.

Performance Management and Appraisal
This site features a guide to terminology, articles, books, and an e-mail discussion list.

Performance Management & Performance Appraisal (Bacal & Associates)
"Everything You Need to Know" about performance management and appraisal from the consultant who wrote the book on it (Performance Management), this site offers a lot of resources.

Performance Measurement Resources
One-stop shopping for information on performance measurement, this site includes how-to articles, examples of measures, links to measurement-related Web sites, and an annotated bibliography of books and articles related to performance measurement.

Performance Technology
This site, created by Allison Rossett and two graduate students, provides an easy introduction to performance technology, with a definition, a glossary, a bibliography, and a list of professional organizations.

Performance Technology, University of Colorado at Denver School of Education
This site consists of a variety of links to resources, readings, and organizations.

Personnel and Training Site This site includes a listing of various resources available through Ethos PTC and links to various other training resources in the U.K.

This site describes the society and includes some links to other training-related sites.

Resources for Distance Education
This site, hosted by Charles Darling of Capital Community-Technical College in Hartford, CT, with an emphasis on K-12 and postsecondary, provides information on discussion lists, distance education journals (including online), and distance education course providers.

Self-Directed Work Team
This is a source for examples, books and other resources, bibliographies on the Web, and links to sites that cover the basics and team skills.

Skillsnet
This site serves as a repository of skill standards projects, information on state skill boards, white papers, and more.

Skill View Technologies, Inc.
This site provides information about products and services to help companies implement skills-based management.

Society for Human Resource Management
This site gives lots of information about the society and HRMagazine, its official publication. There are daily news updates and on-line publications: HRMagazine, Workplace Visions, Mosaics, and Washington Insider. SHRM members can also access a library of research papers and a bulletin board area. HR Cyberspace provides an extensive listing of links to other sites.

Society for Organizational Learning
The purpose of SOL is "to discover, develop, and integrate multiple theories of leading, learning, and working together." This site features the Idea Exchange (short essays on various topics), Practice Field (applications of concepts and tools), information on events, SOL publications (some of which are on-line), and the SOL newsletter.

Targeted Communication Management Training & Development Resource Page
This comprehensive and up-to-date site has all kinds of information and links to sites dealing with training issues, including a list of Internet discussion groups related to training and more than 130 non-commercial sites for I & D/HR professionals, plus an acronym glossary. The site also includes a Training and Development Virtual Bookstore, through which visitors can buy from Amazon Books.

Team Builders Plus Training Links
If you're using teams, this page of links should be on your list. The links are classified according to topic, but you'll want to skim through all the descriptions. The variety is impressive.

THE Journal Online: Technology Horizons in Education
This site features current and past issues of the journal and a "road map to the World Wide Web for educators." The focus is on primary and secondary education, but there are articles and links relevant to distance learning as well.

The Trainers' Warehouse
This is a discount mail-order company that provides a broad line of accessories and supplies for training and development professionals. The company guarantees: "If you can't find a product you want, give us a call. We'll find it or design and build it for you."

Trainet.com: North American Training and Development Resource Center
This site, for people selling or seeking training services, claims to be "the most comprehensive database known of training-related products and services." It contains over 4,000 training categories, A-Z, in the Training Suppliers and Consultants Database, which can be searched by keyword.

Training and Development Resources
This is a discussion forum created in July 1999 primarily to help people new to training and development become familiar with resources.

Training and Seminar Locator
Sponsored by the Education, Training and Development Resource Center for Business and Industry, this site includes data bases that allow you to search for events, products, and providers on many business topics.

Training Checklists by Susan Boyd
This site, maintained by a computer training firm, features short articles and checklists that are practical and provide interesting insights into human behavior. There are also products for training, including a book of analogies to accelerate computer training.

Training Consortium
This site, hosted by A.E. Schwartz & Associates, features a searchable database of training, consulting, and speaking professionals as well as vendors, products, and career opportunities. There's also a general purpose bulletin board.

The Training Forum
This site offers training organizations, HR professionals, and trainers "a comprehensive resource of premium training products and services." It features databases of courses, speakers, training resources, seminars and conferences, and organizations.

Training Media Review
This newsletter site by "the leading publisher of significant video and multimedia training media" provides help for business training and management development, along with several search engines. The site features a selection of past reviews, the current TMR Top 20, news, and opinion.

Training Net
This site aims to be "Your personalized online marketplace for skills training and professional education ... any form, anywhere, anytime." It also features a career center, and training news.

The Training Oasis
This is a "virtual oasis" with "innovative strategies to generate bottom-line results from your training." It features an "accelerated training smorgasbord," a forum for exchanging creative training ideas, and a "spice of the month."

The Training Place
This is "The WBT Source: Online Communities of Collaborative Learning." It features news and information on Web-based training, a book store for training and management, and papers and other resources, including vendors. It also publishes a free e-mail newsletter on WBT and has sponsored virtual conferences - WBT/OLL '97 and Vital '98 (Virtual Interactive Training and Learning).

The Training Registry
This site provides information on training courses, providers, speakers, presenters, services for trainers, products, and books and other publications.

Training Supersite
Bill Communications, whose Human Performance Group (formerly Lakewood Publications) publishes Training, hosts this "one-stop site for all your training and training development needs." It includes selected articles from the current issue of Training, a career center, a discussion board, and links to more than 200 training-related Web sites.

Training Technology Resource Center
This site is part of the Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration.
Note: As part of the ETA reorganization, the TTRC Web site as a distinct subsection of the ETA Web site is being phased out.

Web-Based Training Information Center
This nonprofit site provides information on training via the Web: articles, tools, theory, style guides, events, and links to WBT sites. It also has a primer on Web-based training, discussion forums, and surveys about WBT and WBPSS.

WingsNet
This "Business Learning Resource" is comprehensive: it provides information on associations, seminars, conferences, books, videos, and CDs, and satellite programs of interest to trainers and anybody interested in continuing education and career advancement, as well as a wide variety of links.

Workforce Online
Formerly HR Headquarters, this site boasts "the world's largest database of seminars and conferences" - more than 150,000 training programs, allowing visitors to search and register. There are also discussion forums.

Workforce Tools
This site provides access to a comprehensive directory of HR products and services, with searching by category and/or by company name.

WorkIndex: Your Link to Workplace Web Sites
Hosted through a joint arrangement between Cornell University's School of Industrial Labor Relations and the publishers of Human Resource Executive, this site covers many work-related areas, including training and development and human resources, with a search engine for easier use. It also features Human Resource Executive.

Work Team Coaching Bi-Weekly
This Web page carries the current issue of Work Team Coaching Bi-Weekly, a magazine for work team coaches and executive facilitators that is also available by e-mail at no cost. There are also The Coach's Bookshelf, an annotated list of more than 180 "highly recommended books and other resources for quality leadership knowledge," and links to newsletters, discussion groups, and other resources related to training and performance.

This page - the Publishers' Place - is not related to training, but it includes links to most publishers and can be a valuable resource if you're looking for a particular title. You can search by subject or by publisher.

Business Week
This is the online version of Business Week, and it's a great place visit to read current or past articles. There's an archive of articles that you can search as well.

The Copyright Web Site
This site provides real-world, practical, and relevant information on copyrighting written materials, music, or whatever.

The Dilbert Zone
We can learn a lot from Dilbert - if only not to take everything we do so seriously. This site features cartoons, information on Dilbert and his creator, and all kinds of stuff you can buy related to Dilbert.

Fast Company
This is the Fast Company magazine site. Fast Company is a hip modern business magazine, and the site includes current and back issues of the magazine online and more.

Goal/QPC
Goal/QPC is a consulting, training, and publishing company, best known for the Memory Jogger pocket guides to quality tools and teams. This site provides a good overview of Goal/QPC products.

Goff's Cartoons for Newsletters and Magazines
On his home page, Ted Goff features his funny and relevant cartoons, a lot of them related to business and safety on the job, with information on gaining permission to use these in newsletters and other publications.

A good general business site.

My Virtual Reference Desk
An extremely useful site with links to nearly any type of information you might be seeking, including news services, most newspapers that publish online plus Roget's Thesaurus, Bartlett's Quotations, and lots, lots more.

National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
A very valuable site for any company seeking information on NIST resources for improving manufacturing processes. NIST-sponsored conferences and training programs on standards and technology-related matters are described here. NIST also administers the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, which can be used to improve employee and organizational performance, so there's an internal link to information, including the criteria for business, health care, and education that can be used as excellent internal auditing documents.

National Partnership for Reinventing Government
This site provides information on the progress of the initiative formerly known as National Performance Review. The site includes tools, examples, and links to various other government sites, primarily of interest to federal employees, but worth a visit for anybody.

On The Edge with Michael Finley
Finley is a business writer and commentator, who, among other things, is co-author of Why Teams Don't Work and Why Change Doesn't Work. This site includes many of his articles, reviews of his books, and other information on his activities. Peripherally related to training and performance.

Personality Typing
This site focuses on personality typing systems, with links to other sites relevant to personality matters. Visitors can also use the Keirsey Temperament Sorter, a personality indicator similar to Myers-Briggs. Answer 70 questions and learn more about yourself.

Reuter's Business Briefing
This is the entry for learning about a wide variety of business information offered by Reuters, one of the most trusted sources of business information. You can sign up for a free trial of some of its services and learn more about what it offers.

Systemcorp/Ernst & Young LLP
This site features the Systemcorp/Ernst & Young LLP ISO training and implementation CD-based product, developed in collaboration with H. James Harrington, a highly respected consultant who gives seminars around the world on process and performance improvement.
